Biography:
James Compton has been practicing law at Ward, Hocker & Thornton, PLLC since 2001. James has spent his career representing institutions of this Commonwealth that typically have two hundred and fifty (250) or more employees, and the defense services by Jim have run the gamut. In addition, he enjoys when presented the opportunity representing individuals who have been injured or harmed in some way by the wrongdoing of others.

James attended Georgetown College where he was an active member and President of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Georgetown College in 1998. Prior to attending Georgetown, he attended and graduated from Somerset High School in 1994. At Somerset, Jim excelled academically and was a proud standout member of the Somerset football team. Jim and his former teammates remain close, long-time friends even today.

Upon completing his undergraduate studies, James entered Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law, and did an extensive clerkship all during his tenure at NKU Chase for one of the more premier defense firms of the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area, being mentored by a former Kentucky Bar Association president and other widely recognized litigators of Kentucky. Obtaining this clerkship position early in his career at NKU Chase was an extremely valuable component of Jim’s legal education prior to beginning his legal career in the heart of the Bluegrass, where he was born, with the fine, longstanding statewide institution of Ward, Hocker & Thornton.

Jim is active in the community and has served as a mentor at Georgetown College. In addition, Jim enjoys spending time with his family in Somerset and attending the church he grew up in. In his spare time, Jim enjoys all University of Kentucky and Georgetown College sports and golfing at his favorite courses in both Lexington and Somerset, Ky.
